A few days (weeks?) ago Jason came home from school with a bag full of jeans and a post it note that read:
Oh Carly, do you know that you just made my day? Giving me these unwearable jeans and creative freedom is like handing me a giant box of Happy!
Carly goes to school with Jason, as you may know med students aren't exactly rolling in dough, so I was excited to help her hang on to her jeans. Then I inspected them, and OH MAN those are some doozies of holes! I wanted to give her back at least one pair of full jeans, so I chose these to repair because they were ripped but had no large holes:
Would you like to know how to turn those...
Into THESE???
This was a real project, let me tell you! Here is how I did it:
First I turned them right side out. I put the ripped edges together and ironed some wonder under on them to kind of 'glue' them together.
Next I needed some patches, and since another pair of jeans she gave me will be losing it's legs to become a skirt I used part of a leg for the patches. I cut them into strips and then ironed wonder under onto them, then ironed them onto the rip.
I then stitched all the way around the patches with a straight stitch, then reenforced it with some zig zags going across.
Then to make it super secure I did a large zig zag where the rip used to be.
When I finished I decided that it might be nice to have add a little something to draw the eye away from the crotch. I immediately thought of this $3 Old Navy shirt that I bought, which is lovely but horribly unflattering:
It made lovely applique! If you need a tutorial for applique, go HERE.
And here is the back:
You can barely notice the patch!
It is M-1 exam week, so the med students need all the love and support they can get. I am sending them to her with this note attached:
Gosh you have just performed the impossible ,I bet Carly was delighted ...love Jan xx
